The International Federation of Social Workers defines social work in the following way. "The social work profession promotes social change, problem solving in human relationships, and the empowerment and liberation of people to enhance well-being. Utilising theories of human behaviour and social systems, social work intervenes at the points where people interact with their environments. Principles of human rights and social justice are fundamental to social work."
In David's personal practice, he operates knowing that the person or group he's working with must be considered in the context of the individual and larger systems. He recognizes that each client has inherent dignity and worth and deserves to be treated equitably and with respect.
Evidence Based Practice (EBP) and ethics play a large role in the helping process. To ensure the clients' needs are protected, David's always thinking in the context of ethical principles and proven methods of helping people. David takes his work with people seriously and recognizes the impact that their time together can have.
David's objective is to help each client clearly define his or her own goals and to help each of them define a strategy to achieve those goals. Problem solving and supporting the clients along the way is always simultaneously challenging and rewarding. After assessing their work together, David's always amazed when his clients recognize their own worth, develop the ability to communicate better, and advocate for themselves. David is truly honored to be a part of the lives of the individuals and groups he serves.
