About David Hage

 

David Hage headshotDavid Hage is a doctorally prepared gerontologist, licensed clinical social worker and allied health sciences educator. Dr. Hage earned a BSW degree from Misericordia University, an MSW from Marywood University, and a Ph.D. in Leadership & Gerontology from Concordia University Chicago. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the states of Florida and Pennsylvania, a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW), a Certified Advanced Social Work Case Manager (C-ASWCM),  and a Certified Advanced Aging Life Care Professional™ (previously called Certified Geriatric Care Manager), a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), and the National Society for Leadership & Success (NSLS).

Dr. Hage began his full-time appointment with Misericordia University’s Social Work Program in August 2016 as an Assistant Professor/Director of Field Education. Dr. Hage also coordinates the undergraduate Gerontology Minor within the Social Work Department, directs the post-graduate Geriatric Care Management Certificate within the Occupational Therapy Department, and serves as the Faculty Liaison for the university’s Institute on Aging. Dr. Hage currently teaches or has taught undergraduate through doctoral level courses within the post-graduate Geriatric Care Management Certificate, Occupational Therapy MS/OTD, Gerontology Minor, Health Professions, Patient Navigation, Psychology, Social Work, & Sociology Departments. 

Dr. Hage’s direct practice experience includes work with economically disadvantaged children and families in low-income housing, a maternity home for pregnant women experiencing homelessness, a rural community action agency, acute care hospital inpatient rehabilitation, sub-acute care and outpatient care environments with a primarily adult through geriatric population. Dr. Hage is a board member and trainer for the Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) Taskforce for NEPA, a regional task force committed to advanced care planning and honoring patient wishes at end-of-life. He also serves as a member of the biomedical ethics and palliative care committees at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, where he also has privileges to provide clinical social work services to patients admitted to the hospital’s inpatient rehabilitation unit.
